The bishops, the HHS mandate, and civil disobedience
Are bishops willing to go to jail over the HHS mandate? That's the question posed over at the Pundit & Pundette blog. We aren't quite there yet -- there are still political and legal remedies available to the bishops in order to defend the Church from the government's attempt to force it to subsidize artificial contraception and abortion. But the bishops should be thinking about what their response will be if the political and legal remedies prove ineffective to protect the Church from the government's attempt to force it to violate conscience and liberty.
