Pat Buchanan's advice: don't fear the fiscal cliff

"If you believe higher tax rates or tax revenues would be like poisoning an already weak economy, why would you collaborate in administering that poison? Why not just say no?" So writes Pat Buchanan giving some thoughtful advice to the congressional Republicans:  Should the GOP Go Over the Cliff? What does Buchanan think the Republicans should do?
They should act as the loyal opposition in a parliamentary system whose duty it is to oppose, to offer an alternative agenda and to wait upon the success or failure of the government, as Labor is doing in Britain and the conservatives are doing in France.
Read it all.  I wonder if the Republicans will be smart enough to listen to the man who challenged the first President Bush after the president went back on his pledge not to raise taxes.

Related item:  Howard Dean appears to be on the same wavelength as Buchanan when it comes to the fiscal cliff, although for different reasons.  As this post over at RedState reports, Dean argues that going over the fiscal cliff is the best possible outcome for liberals. A paleo-conservative & post-modern liberal consensus?
